Boone County seeks voters OK for potential sale of Maple Crest Centre – News – Rockford Register Star

BELVIDERE — Voters in Boone County are being asked whether they want to give the county permission to sell the Maple Crest Care Centre located at 4452 Squaw Prairie Road.

A yes vote will authorize the county to sell the nursing home if officials deem that a sale is in the best interests of taxpayers.

Because Maple Crest was constructed after a 1969 referendum, voter approval is required in order to sell the facility. The referendum allowed the county to issue nearly $1 million in construction bonds and levy a tax for future debt service payments.

Although there is no offer to buy the facility, the county is proactively seeking the necessary authorization to avoid the need to hold a special election in the instance that the facility does go on the

HUD inspectors find Ben Carson’s actions didn’t benefit son in Baltimore deals, but had the ‘appearance’ of ethical issues

The inspector general’s office for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Affairs released an investigative report Tuesday that found no evidence that HUD Secretary Ben Carson used his position to benefit his son’s business interests in Baltimore, but he “could have done more to avoid the appearance that he was not complying with federal ethics regulations.”

The investigation stems largely from a 2017 “listening tour” in the city by Carson, a former neurosurgeon at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

The report said the inspector general’s office received “multiple complaints” that the HUD secretary allowed his son to invite companies and individuals to participate in the tour to advance his own financial interests. Ben Carson Jr. is chairman of a Columbia-based investment firm called Interprise Partners.

The investigation by the HUD watchdog specifically focuses on a stop on the tour in the Poppleton neighborhood, a hardscrabble part of West

Fire on Sign Hill in South San Francisco threatens homes, triggers evacuations

A four-alarm wildfire that broke out in the San Bruno Mountains of South San Francisco on Friday afternoon, triggering evacuations, was contained after 2 p.m.

“Fire crews continue to work of full extinguishment,” the South San Francisco Fire Department shared on Twitter. “Evacuation orders are still happening, please continue to stay out of the area.”

Mandatory evacuations are in effect for Carnelian Road, Sonja Road, Mountain Road, Ridgeview Court and Viewmont Terrace. A temporary evacuation center is set up at the MSB Social Hall at 33 Arroyo Dr.

Flames burned across a landscape of parched grass near the giant white cement letters spelling out “South San Francisco Industrial City” on Sign Hill. The blaze broke out around noon and emitted a massive plume of smoke. Easterly winds blew the smoke toward the coast and air quality levels in Pacifica quickly deteriorated.

HUD Laws for Age-Restricted Home Communities | Home Guides

Many senior citizens depend on their retirement plans.
Age-restricted communities appeal to some seniors for the socialization and activities they provide.

Age-restricted communities are collections of housing units, detached or attached, for sale or for rent. The law that regulates these communities is called the Housing for Older Persons Act of 1995 (HOPA). While age-restricted communities have been built for decades, the recent changes to the law give these communities greater flexibility in determining what services and amenities that they offer their residents.

The Fair Housing Administration within HUD regulates age-restricted communities, or active adult communities, as they are more commonly called. The basic regulation that governs the community, aside from not discriminating against people on the basis of race or religion, is that one member of the household must be over 55 in 80 percent or more of the occupied homes.

Prior to the more recent regulations put in place in 1995, active adult communities had to demonstrate that they had social programs and other activities geared for seniors.

9 Gun and Ammo Stocks to Buy If Biden Wins

InvestorPlace – Stock Market News, Stock Advice & Trading Tips

By arguably most measures, President Donald Trump is done for. Whether you look at the polls or Trump’s meltdown during the debate or his novel coronavirus infection, it’s getting ugly for Republicans. Given that Joe Biden has a much stronger lead than former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did back in 2016, it seems the former vice president has this in the bag. And that would be great for gun stocks.

However, no one should be too comfortable with the prospect of a Biden victory before it happens. First, according to Inan Dogan, Republicans apparently have a penchant for sandbagging opinion polls. Then, on election day, they vote for their guy and it could happen again. Second, The Economist noted in November 2019 that poorly educated voters hold the keys to the White House. If so, that might complicate the

Denver Home Inspection Helps Owners Prepare for Listing Homes in COVID Market

DENVER, Oct. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — With the high demand for homes and limited inventory in Denver, Janci McClafferty, Realtor with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty will advise her sellers to hire home inspectors prior to listing their homes for sale if they are looking to close quickly. It’s a strategy that can make all the difference for a quick turnaround.

“Sellers often question whether it’s a good idea to have their home pre-inspected prior to listing.  My advice here is if they are in need of a much quicker closing than the normal 30-45 days, this is a good option,” said McClafferty. “Having your home pre-inspected and getting ahead of any major issues can cut your closing time in half!”

To Daniel Tsirlin, owner of Denver Home Inspection, this makes perfect sense. “I enjoy working with sellers to ensure their property is in the best possible

After months of public outcry, new leadership will be coming to the New Jersey veterans homes that were the site of two of the deadliest outbreaks of the coronavirus in the state.

Gov. Phil Murphy on Friday announced new administrators will be named at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes at Paramus and Menlo Park as part of a broader shakeup of a department that was scorched for its handling of Covid-19. An estimated 190 residents at the two facilities have died of Covid-19, representing roughly a third of their population.

Within the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, which oversees both homes as well as a third in Vineland, Murphy is elevating Lisa J. Hou to interim adjutant general and commissioner, replacing Major General Jemal Beale.

The New Jersey Globe was first to
