30 Abandoned Cats Rescued From Condo In San Diego’s North County

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Thirty cats were rescued by the San Diego Humane Society after they were abandoned last month inside a condominium, the agency announced Wednesday.

The property manager of a condo complex in the 1000 block of East Washington Ave. in Escondido called the organization on Oct. 22 to report that a tenant had left their cats behind after being evicted, according to the San Diego Humane Society.

Officers from the agency’s law enforcement division found 31 cats living in “unsanitary conditions” inside the unit, San Diego Humane Society spokeswoman Nina Thompson said.

The cats were taken to the organization’s campuses in Escondido and Oceanside for extensive medical exams, Thompson said. A majority of the cats were found to be suffering from numerous medical conditions, including upper respiratory infections, diarrhea, ear infections and heart murmurs.
