Tampa airport suspends operations as Eta closes in on Florida: Latest

Eta has weakened from a hurricane to a tropical storm as it closes in on Florida, where it’s expected to make landfall overnight.

A tropical storm warning is in effect along much of the western Florida peninsula, from Fort Myers to Tampa and up to Gainesville.

Heavy rain, storm surge and gusty winds are already slamming the Tampa area, where conditions are expected to worsen throughout the day.

Tampa International Airport suspended all operations at 3 p.m. Operations are expected to resume Thursday by noon.

Apple Suspends iPhone Maker Pegatron Over Labor Abuses in China

Apple said on Monday that it had placed a key assembler of its iPhones on probation after the Taiwanese company was found to have concealed violations of labor rules for students employed at its factories in China.

For years, Apple has worked, and at times struggled, to uphold labor standards across its vast electronics supply chain in China. The company said it had made the decision because the Taiwanese company, Pegatron, had violated its code of conduct by allowing student laborers to work night shifts and overtime and do work unrelated to their fields of study, and had then falsified documents to cover it up.

“The individuals at Pegatron responsible for the violations went to extraordinary lengths to evade our oversight mechanisms,” Apple said in a statement.

DM orders FIR against contractor for poor construction of UPSRTC bus station & women’s hospital, suspends jr engineer | Bareilly News

Pilibhit: District magistrate (DM) Pulkit Khare has ordered the lodging of an FIR against Mukesh Arora — the contractor who built both the UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus station and the 50-bed Puranpur women’s hospital — and the suspension of junior engineer Sikandar Pal of Uttar Pradesh State Construction Corporation Limited (UPSCCL), the government agency assigned by the state administration to carry out the projects, for shoddy construction quality of both buildings.
In addition, he has pulled up V K Gangwar, UPSRTC assistant regional manager, for negligence in regularly inspecting and reviewing the quality of construction. Khare had made a surprise inspection of the two buildings being constructed on Tuesday.
