CNY contractor who swindled $100,000 can only work in future under judge’s watchful eye

Kirkville, NY — A Central New York contractor who pocketed down payments, left major projects unfinished, bounced checks and eventually filed for bankruptcy has promised to pay eight of his victims back.

But for Daniel Mace, of Kirkville, to keep doing home improvements, he’ll need to abide by the letter of state law — and a judge will be keeping watch.

Mace pleaded guilty to two felonies in Madison County for swindling victims of cash by disappearing before work was completed. In one case, he promised to build a $55,000 garage, but never did any work, state police said.

His victims included residents of Madison, Lewis, Jefferson and Onondaga counties.
